New hood struts! Now I don't have to worry about my hood trying to decapitate me anymore!
Also, the amount of satisfaction that I feel is completely disproportionate to the difficulty of the task... :)

Out of curiosity, what brand of hood struts did you get?

i have nothing but love for vintage BMWs with their forward opening hoods. Also makes them very easy to spot in u-pull-it lots. They also make it MUCH easier to work on stuff near the firewall.

Agreed. It just makes access to everything in the engine seems that much more spacious...

Yep. I've heard people complain that it gets in the way of the radiator and other front end stuff, but I've replaced THREE radiators on these types of cars (two on E30s, one on an E34) and if anything it was EASIER to get at than similar vintage cars with conventional hoods. No access issues at all.
